Rugby World Cup 2015 Warm Up: England 19 - 14 France

England defeated France 19-14 partially due to Anthony Watson who scored two early tries in an exciting Rugby World Cup 2016 warm-up match as the two sides competed in the run-up to the big event coming up in London this fall.

World Cups can be won by the team with the best defence. After earning a comfortable lead, England head coach Stuart Lancaster and team Captain Tom Wood did their best to survive a battering in the second half as what looked like an easy win turned into a close finish. Lancaster’s side delivered three tries with their fierce pace, accuracy and a bit of deception.

Lancaster will soon choose four centers for his World Cup squad reportedly with Jonathan Joseph and Brad Barritt sure shots, leaving Henry Slade, Sam Burgess and Luther Burrell trying to earn the final two places.

As the youngest and least experienced, outside-half Slade is most likely to be left out after he made his debut for the England squad and almost got a yellow card in addition to wasting a turnover against France. At 11 minutes, Slade’s quick-thinking led to England’s opening try at 11 minutes and his reverse pass created the third, scored by Jonny May. May created the space for Watson to score his second.

Also making his debut for England as a center, Burgess was sent off on his big night after displaying advanced skills, power, aggressiveness and dexterity. Burgess looked fit while earning his first cap.
