England trounce Italy and move up to top of Six Nations Table

SIX NATIONS 2016: ITALY 9-40 ENGLAND

RBS 6 Nations News: England, Wales, France win, Scotland, Ireland, and Italy lose in 2nd round clashes

England moved top of the Six Nations 2016 Table after two rounds on points difference from France. First and second round winners England and France are now the only two RBS 6 Nations sides who can win a Grand Slam in 2016.

With new manager Eddie Jones in charge, England earned their second RBS 6 Nations win – as three tries in 18 second half minutes ran out a stunning 40-9 victory against Italy in Rome at Stadio Olimpico! After giving Italy the “good hiding” promised by Jones, the Red Rose look to be fit enough to earn the 2016 Six Nations title and their first RBS 6 Nations silverware since 2011!

Jones’ side looked like a different team than the humiliated England National Team that crashed out of Rugby World Cup 2015 after losing to Australia 13-33 becoming the first ever hosts not to advance from the pool stages of a World Cup. George Ford scored the first 5-pointer to open the scoring for England after Italy and England exchanged two penalty scores each in the opening quarter of the game.

Italy continued to battle in the first half, reducing England’s lead to 11-9 as Carlo Canna scored his third penalty of the match before the break. However in the second half, Italy began their capitulation as England began to dominate. England asserted their dominance over Italy with Joseph’s first try in the 53rd minute when he intercepted a loose pass by Italy wing Leonardo Sarto.

Match hero Jonathan Joseph scored three second half tries as a confident England dominated in Rome to claim their second RBS 6 Nations win in two. Bath center Joseph sent home his first of the afternoon before Owen Farrell added the extras, opening up a nine-point advantage. Joseph took only four minutes to add another score as he timed his run perfectly to latch onto Danny Care's kick along the ground. Hat-trick hero Joseph then scored his third on 70 minutes.

At the end, Farrell converted a try of his own to bring the score up to 40. “We have a great opportunity now,” said 24-year-old Joseph, who has scored eight tries in 17 appearances for England. “We’ve had two away games and we’ve won both. We’re back in front of our home crowd next and that’s massive for us. It’s a hard place for teams to come and win. It’s about pressuring them and hopefully coming away with the win.”

Here are the results from Six Nations intense and aggressive Rounds One and Two.

Joseph’s was the first hat-trick in a Six Nations match by an England player since Chris Ashton’s four-try haul the victory over Italy at Twickenham in 2011. “I just wanted to do my country and family proud,” continued Joseph. “I want to prove myself every game so I put in as much effort as I possibly can. It just seemed to fall into place and I was in the right areas to dot down a few tries. I want to put my authority on every single game, not just a game here and there. I want to make sure I can perform at a high standard in every game. I’m obviously very happy to get the hat-trick.”

Eddie Jones was pleased with his men. “Our defense has been excellent,” said Jones. “Paul Gustard has done a great job in a short period of time. We were quite brutal in the second. We really came off the line and hurt people and as a result we got some turnover ball.” “We were expecting a very tough game and that was a case. They played turnovers much better than us,” said Italy captain Sergio Parisse. “We are disappointed for the fans today to concede those points. The best team won.” Eddie Jones' side are going to be the side to beat.
