England National Rugby Team Update – Autumn Internationals

England already has their sights set on their Australia tournament, Autumn Internationals, and RBS 6 Nations, as well as their ultimate long-range goal of winning the Rugby World Cup in 2019. There are only two games left in the England Rugby Union Premiership, and rugby players are hoping to impress head coach Eddie Jones with their form ahead of the summer when Jones will be selecting his side. Players and fans looking forward to England’s tour of Australia are wondering who will go and who will be left behind.

Eddie Jones England side will play South Africa, Fiji, Argentina and Australia in the upcoming autumn internationals as part of the Old Mutual Wealth Series. Jones who was appointed England Rugby manager coach last fall after the Rugby World Cup, will clash with his native Australia in the final match of the Autumn Internationals on Saturday 3 December. South Africa are England’s first Autumn Internationals opponents on Saturday 12 November before they face Fiji on 19 November and Argentina on 26 November. Wales will also go head-to-head with Fiji who finished fourth in Pool A at the World Cup, following defeats to England, Australia and Wales.

England full-back Mike Brown said: “It’s great to be able to take on four such quality teams on back-to-back weekends. It allows us to test ourselves against some high caliber opposition.” Brown played in 48 Tests and started for England in every match in their amazing RBS 6 Nations campaign. After being key to England’s Grand Slam in the 2016 Rugby Six Nations, England full-back Brown has sets his sights on keeping fit and improving as he faces stiff competition for his premium spot on the starting squad.

Competing with Brown for a starting spot are England and Bath winger Anthony Watson, and Alex Goode who plays for Saracens. "The competition's in my head. If I keep pushing myself, I believe I can be one of the best players in the world in my position,” said Brown. "I believe that, and you have to have that confidence and belief if you want to play and thrive at the top level. It's exciting to think I've got so much more to come before I hit my peak. I work hard every day on the training field, hard on what Eddie Jones wants me to do and what the Quins coaches want me to do,” continue Brown. "I do feel over the next four years I've got so much more to give and learn, and to progress. You've got to keep believing you can get better and I do honestly believe that."

"Eddie wants competition in every position, he wants it three or four players deep," said Brown. "That can only be a plus for England. If we want to win the World Cup we'll need that. "Teams like New Zealand, when they've lost players through seasons or tournaments, the next guy comes in and is equally as good. They don't miss out on anything,” continued Brown. "So we need to strive to have that as well, and that means each and every one of us needs to keep working hard on our game. "Hopefully we can keep honing that and bring out some flowing rugby on the hard tracks in Australia."

“I honestly believe we can beat the best teams in the world on our day, even though we got knocked out of the World Cup,” said Brown. “We also owe Australia one after they did a job on us last time. I’m not a player who settles for losing. We’re England, we want to win. We expect to win and we expect that of each other. That’s not being arrogant. It’s just the way we are.”

England will host South Africa on November 12th at Twickenham Stadium and will then host titan rugby club Australia on December 3rd at Twickenham.

Wales National Rugby Team Update

Gethin Jenkins has 123 Wales caps. Jenkins was a starter for 88 of those caps. Thirty-five year old Jenkins made his debut for Wales in 2002. Now aged 35, the Cardiff Blue and former British & Irish Lion rugby player is enjoying his new role for Warren Gatland's Wales side. Jenkins enjoyed his new role during Wales' 2016 RBS 6 Nations campaign as Wales finished in second place behind England. "The Six Nations gave me a bit of a new lease of life," said Jenkins. "Coming off the bench was a different experience for me.”

"I played quite a bit, but I've looked after the body a little bit more. I've got next season now with the Blues, so I'm looking to look forward to that and hopefully carrying on at international level," added Jenkins. Jenkins will go with Wales on tour to New Zealand this summer for three Tests against the defending world champions in what is likely to be the final tour of Jenkins international career. "If picked, that would be my last Wales tour, so I would definitely look forward to going out there," continued Jenkins. "It's a tough place to go. I've been there two or three times. But that's what you want as a player, to be challenged at the top level by the top team over the last eight years.

"So if selected I'm looking forward to it. I am still enjoying it. The body is holding on." Wales host Australia at Millenium Stadium in Cardiff on November 5th.
