Japan responsible for second shock result at RWC 2019

A few days ago, we wrote a news article about the first big shock of this 2019 Rugby World Cup tournament, when Uruguay surprised everyone by beating Fiji. It’s only a few days later and we’ve already seen a second shock result. Japan is the host nation of this tournament, but nobody really expected anything from them. Nevertheless, they managed to beat Ireland with 19 to 12.

Ireland was odds-on to win this match and they started pretty good on Saturday. They took the lead with two tries in the first half. Despite taking the lead, they weren’t able to create a big lead. Japan stayed in the match with a 12-9 score at half-time. The Japanese team played a very impressive second half which they won with 10-0.

It’s the second victory for the hosts, which puts them in the driving seat for a place in the quarter finals. England, Italy and Wales also maintained their 100% score by winning their second match. These are the only four countries that have won both their matches so far at this tournament. New Zealand and France both won their only match played so far.
