2024 England Six Nations debutants

Earlier this week we announced the squad that Steve Borthwick has named for a training camp with the English rugby team. The team is preparing for the upcoming 2024 Six Nations tournament, which will start in two weeks time. After announcing the squad, it’s time to take a bigger look into the players that will join Borthwick for the camp. The English rugby manager selected 7 uncapped players. They are familiar names for the die-hard rugby fans, but might still be a bit unknown for the bigger audience. That’s why we want to introduce the 7 uncapped players in the England Six Nations squad.

Chandler Cunningham-South (Harlequins)

Chandler Cunningham-South is an English professional rugby union player, born on March 18, 2003. He plays for the Premiership Rugby club Harlequins and is capable of playing as a second row, flanker, or number 8. Cunningham-South was born in Sidcup, England, and moved to New Zealand with his family at the age of four. He began his professional rugby career with the London Irish academy in February 2022, making his senior club debut in May 2022. During the 2022–2023 season, he made nineteen Premiership appearances for London Irish, scoring three tries. In the summer of 2023, following financial issues at London Irish, he moved to Harlequin.

Ethan Roots (Exeter Chiefs)

Ethan Roots is probably the most surprising name in this squad. Not because of his qualities, but he’s born in New-Zealand and formerly active as cage fighter and jiu-jitsu champion. Six years ago, the combative flanker, who qualifies for the England rugby team through his father, was working 10-hour shifts for an Auckland-based building company as a construction worker after leaving school with no qualifications. Rugby had been a feature during his school years but, after becoming alienated from the sport as a teenager due to a delayed growth spurt, the idea of pursuing it professionally quickly faded.

Oscar Beard (Harlequins)

Oscar Beard, born on November 20, 2001, in Frimley, Surrey, is an English rugby union player who primarily plays as a winger or outside centre for Harlequins. He started his rugby career at a young age, playing for Alton Rugby Club and Farnham RUFC, before joining the Harlequins academy when he was 12 years old.

Fraser Dingwall (Northampton Saints)

Fraser Dingwall, born on April 7, 1999, in Cambridge, England, is a professional rugby union player who currently plays as a centre for Northampton Saints. He began his rugby journey at Cambridge R.U.F.C. and joined Northampton Saints at the age of 14. Dingwall is known for his leadership skills, having captained the England U20 team and previously played for the Scotland U18 side, qualifying through his Scottish father.

Immanuel Feyi-Waboso (Exeter Chiefs)

Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, born on December 20, 2002, in Cardiff, Wales, is a professional rugby union player currently playing for the Premiership Rugby side Exeter Chiefs. He primarily plays in the positions of centre or wing. Feyi-Waboso began his rugby career at Rumney RFC and played for Cardiff Schools at the U-11 and U-15 levels.

Tom Roebuck (Sale Sharks)

Tom Roebuck, born on January 7, 2001, is an English rugby union player who plays for Sale Sharks in the Premiership Rugby. Starting his rugby journey at Chester Rugby Club at just five years old, Roebuck later attended Christleton High School and Wirral Grammar School. In his early career, Roebuck represented England and Great Britain in sevens at the U18 level and then progressed to represent England at the U20 level. He was a part of the England U18 squad for fixtures against Scotland and France in March 2019 and scored two tries in England's win over Scotland. Roebuck was also named in England's Elite Player Squad for the 2020 Under-20 Six Nations.

Fin Smith (Northampton Saints)

Fin Smith is an English professional rugby union player, currently playing as a fly-half for Northampton Saints in the Premiership. Born on May 11, 2002, Smith has shown remarkable talent in his young career. He started playing rugby at the local club Shipston-on-Stour and Warwick School before joining the Worcester Warriors academy. At 18 years and 292 days, Smith became only the second 18-year-old to play for Warriors in the top flight when he made his debut against Gloucester Rugby at Kingsholm on February 27, 2021.
