Early Dembele goal stuns Arsenal at home

The Emirates Stadium was rocking at the start of this match. For the first time since the 2008-09 season, the stadium hosted a Champions League semi-final. Early May 2009 Arsenal welcomed Manchester United for their previous semi-final tie. The Gunners lost that match with 1-3, so everybody involved in the club was ready to do better this time. Unfortunately, the atmosphere in the stadium changed already in the 4th minute. When Paris Saint-Germain’s Kvaratskhelia managed to find Dembele. The in red hot form Frenchman immediately put the back in the back of the net behind David Raya. A huge blow for Arsenal against a very strong side.

French domination

Luis Enrique turned Paris Saint-Germain into one of the most exciting teams in Europe. After losing the likes of Messi, Neymar and Mbappe, PSG seems to be an even better team now. Doue is one of the youngsters that always produces something special. Every time he touches the ball you can see the class. The French side dominated possession of the ball, but failed to double the lead in the remainder of the first half.

VAR denies Arsenal goal

After PSG scored early in the first half, Arsenal did the same in the second half. A free kick from outside the box, was headed into the net by Mikel Merino. VAR and the semi-automated offside machine checked it and saw Merino was offside with a leg. The goal was cancelled, and Arsenal had to keep chasing the equalizer. The more time got lost, the more pressure Arsenal tried to put on the French backline. Automatically this leaves space in behind their own defense. The pacy attackers from PSG used this space for some very dangerous counter attacks. Both Barcola and Ramos got a good opportunity to put the French team with one leg in the final. They failed to score, which leaves Arsenal fully in this tie. With a 0-1 defeat, there is still all to play for in Paris next week.
