IRB Six Nations: Match official appointments

The International Rugby Board (IRB) has announced the match official appointments for the RBS 6 Nations 2014.

Irishman John Lacey was granted the privilege of officiating at the tournament opener between Wales and Italy at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday, February 1st.

South Africans Craig Joubert and Jaco Peyper have also been appointed by the IRB to referee in next year's Six Nations.

Joubert will referee the Test between Ireland and Scotland in Dublin on February 2, as well as the one between England and Ireland in London on February 22.

Joubert is one of only four referees who will take charge of two games. The others are Wales' Nigel Owens, Frenchman Jérôme Garcès and Australia's Steve Walsh.

Former Irish international scrum-half, Alain Rolland, will face a re-run of the controversial 2011 World Cup semi-final when he takes charge of Wales v France.

This will be Rolland’s last championship before retirement but Welsh fans are still furious with him for red carding captain Sam Warburton for a tip tackle in that semi-final.

The Six Nations kicks off on February 1 and concludes on March 15.
