Six Nations: France 26-24 England

France snatched a thrilling 26-24 Six Nations victory over England thanks to a late converted try from Gael Fickou at Stade de France on Saturday.

France went ahead after just 30 seconds through Yoann Huget and the winger added a second try midway through the first half as the hosts built up a 16-3 lead.

England hit back through Mike Brown's try just before the half and Luther Burrell's debut try and a drop-goal from Danny Care saw the visitors edge 21-16 ahead.

Replacement scrum half Maxime Machenaud dragged the score back to 21-19 on 70 minutes but, with Farrell getting treatment, Goode stepped up to kick England back into a five-point lead three minutes later.

But deep in their own half, France began a move which ended with Dimitri Szarzewski running a gorgeous line and feeding Fickou to not only score but run under the posts while doing so.

That made Machenaud’s conversion a sitter and France had a lead back which they held onto on the final few minutes.

England looked stunned at the final whistle but this was a tremendously gutsy performance from Stuart Lancaster’s men.
