England Secure Six Nations 2016 Title: England 25-21 Wales

Rugby Six Nations: England 25-21 Wales - Red Rose claim RBS 6 Nations title and Triple Crown winning thriller at Twickenham

England secured the 2016 Six Nations title courtesy of Scotland's win over France on Sunday, ensuring that the Red Rose cannot be caught even if they lose to France. The England National Team will travel to Stade de France in Paris on March 19th with a Grand Slam in sight after defeating Wales to win the Six Nations silverware in an epic rugby clash at Twickenham, their fourth straight victory in the 2016 RBS 6 Nations Tournament, on their way to secure the Triple Crown.

England’s Six Nations title is their first since 2011 and even a heavy loss to France cannot deny them the Six Nations trophy. Eddie Jones' England will be crowned 2016 RBS Six Nations champions after Scotland beat France 29-18 on Sunday and the Red Rose staved off a dramatic late Wales fightback at Twickenham.

England made it four wins out of four matches to set up a Grand Slam against France in Paris. The Red Rose claimed revenge against Wales' World Cup victory over them six months ago. England made a bright start as wing Anthony Watson scored England's opening try against Wales with 20 points additional scored by center Owen Farrell.

However Wales made England fight hard to the end for their victory as wing George North and Taulupe Faletau scored tries in the final six minutes following fly-half Dan Biggar's earlier touchdown, with Biggar and Rhys Priestland adding conversions.

A first-half try from Anthony Watson and three penalties from Owen Farrell gave hosts England a 16-0 half-time lead. Watson scored his 10th try in 19 tests. Farrell landed his fourth penalty to make it 19-0. Wales struck twice in the last seven minutes of the match, and cut the lead from 25-7 to within a single try. A charge-down try from Dan Biggar opened the scoring for Wales. Two tries in four minutes from George North and Talupe Faletau almost turned the match around in Wale’s favor.

However England came through at the end after Gatland’s skipper Sam Warburton was carried off on a stretcher, and suddenly the game changed. It appears that Eddie Jones' first season in charge may end in victory and glory for England who have not won the Grand Slam since 2003. England soon may be crowned 2016 Six Nations Champions.

Popular new England boss Eddie Jones announced that his side has game on for a Grand Slam in Paris. "We made a number of changes on purpose to test players and to test the strength of the team and maybe those changes didn't work,” said Jones. “If you look at our first 60 minutes there was some fantastic rugby. The Grand Slam is a reality and we can't wait to get to Paris and to do the business."

Wales manager Warren Gatland felt disappointed with his side’s energy and the result. "I'm very disappointed with the first half. We looked tired and didn't look enthusiastic. I told the players they needed to come up with answers themselves,” said Gatland. “We wonder what could have been. We outscored them 3-1 in terms of tries but the best team won and I take my hat off to them."

"England choked a bit towards the end and it was a delight to see Wales play a different game and show what they're capable of. England deserved the win, they were the better side for 70 minutes," said former Wales fly-half Jonathan Davie. Saracens second row Maro Itoje was named Man of the Match.

England v Wales Scoring Highlights

Centre Owen Farrell kicked England into a deserved ninth-minute lead. A second Farrell penalty hat-trick doubled England's advantage after 17 minutes. England lock Maro Itoje found Brown outside, and wing Anthony Watson finished off for his 10th try in 19 tests. Farrell's conversion sent England 16 points clear just before half-time. England continued their dominance starting off in the second-half. Farrell's fourth successful penalty made it 19-0 after 45 minutes.

Wales finally opened their account at 54 minutes when fly-half Dan Biggar touched down for a try that he converted, making it 19-7. Sadly, Wales lost their captain Sam Warburton at the end of the third quarter. Justin Tipuric replaced him. Farrell next kicked two long-range penalties to leave Wales 25-7 adrift. England prop Dan Cole was sent to the sin-bin nine minutes from time.

Wales scored their second try after Jonathan Davies' break created a 26th test touchdown for wing George North. Rhys Priestland converted and then added the extras to number eight Taulupe Faletau's 77th-minute touchdown in a remarkable comeback attempt from Wales.England kept their composure to the end and closed out a four-point win.
