Wales Rugby News

Wales must pick up the pieces after their disappointing tour the summer to the southern hemisphere. Heading into the Autumn Internationals Wales need to keep their perspective after beatings from New Zealand
It has been confirmed that Warren Gatland will coach the British and Irish Lions in New Zealand next year. So the question is whether Will Gatland will coach a couple of the Autumn Internationals as he did in 2012 before handing the reins entirely to Rob Howley, who was manager when Wales won the 2013 Six Nations, or will Howley automatically take charge.
New Zealand are reportedly the best team in the world. Wales needs to keep the perspective that New Zealand are a powerful, brilliant, team and any team in the world would have a hard time defeating them, even England. In other words losing 3-0 to the All Blacks on their own turf is not a disgrace. However obviously Wales did not play their A-Game in the final Test. Wales led after an hour in the first Test, and rallied well in the second Test.
Key Wales rugby players Liam Williams, Taulupe Faletau, and Ross Moriarty had a great tour none the less. Wales will have plenty of Lions in New Zealand next year including Leigh Halfpenny, Williams, Jonathan Davies, Jamie Roberts, George North, Rhys Webb, Alun Wyn Jones, Faletau and Sam Warburton.
The good news is that Wales do not have to face New Zealand this fall in the Autumn Internationals. Instead Wales should expect success against rivals Australia, Argentina, Japan and South Africa.
Wales go face to face against Australia at Millenium Stadium in Cardiff in their opening Autumn Internationals match on November 5, 2016. On November 12 Wales clash with Argentina, and on November 19, Wales play Japan. The Wales side next battle South Africa on November 26.

England Update

The current England National Rugby Team is the most successful in recent English history. England players returned to the UK buoyant from their 44-40 victory in the third Test against Australia at the Allianz Stadium in Sydney that wrapped up a 3-0 series win, the first time the Wallabies have been whitewashed since the tour by South Africa in 1971.
England must build on their recent successful summer tour down under and their thrilling Australia whitewash if they want to continue on the road to glory and honor going into the Autumn Internationals. England’s journey on the road to rugby world supremacy has only begun.
You can be certain that England manager Eddie Jones will make sure that his England side don't rest on their laurels.
England won their first Grand Slam in 13 years but could have done even better in the Six Nations. England went down under this summer to whitewash Australia for the first time ever. However in all fairness, the Wallabies team were missing some key players. And Australia did lay claim to victory in each of the three tests.
The down under series clean sweep was duly celebrated by fans and Eddie Jones who praised his side’s character and fortitude. Key rugby players on the tour included Chris Robshaw, James Haskell, Dan Cole and Owen “the boot” Farrell. Jones and his men all know the journey has only just begun.
Meanwhile rugby needs to revamp its international calendar.
England made rugby history this summer by clinching their first series victory over Australia, however manager Jones claims his players should have instead been on the beach rejuvenating under his vision for the future of Test match rugby. Instead, England's players have been subjected to a grueling last 12 months
England’s summer tour down-under marked the end of a 12-month season for Jones’ side, who began their preparations for the 2015 World Cup with training camps last June, “a draining workload that Jones claims is unacceptable given the demands of Test match rugby”.
The future structure of the rugby global Test calendar is being negotiated with no fixtures currently agreed to after the 2019 World Cup. Jones gave Rugby Football Union chief exex Ian Ritchie advice on how the four-year cycle between World Cups should be structured in order to make player welfare more important. Jones believes summer tours should be cancelled in a World Cup year going forward.
Eddie Jones was asked what he thought about the rugby players not having a break for 12 months.
"No, I don’t think it’s right,” said Jones. "No, these players should be sitting on a beach in Barbados now. I’ve spoken to Ian Ritchie about that and we are in agreement. Ian is going to try and push that forward to the World Rugby meeting. Ideally it should go: fallow year, then the Lions year when you a development tour away, and then the third year, you have a big tour, a major tour, three Tests, maybe some midweek games."

Ireland Update

Ireland manager Joe Schmidt is weighing up his future in the aftermath of Ireland’s heartbreaking series defeat to South Africa and his personal live. Steve Tew, the New Zealand Rugby Union chief executive, mentioned Schmidt along with fellow Kiwi Six Nations coaches Warren Gatland and Vern Cotter as potential successors to Steve Hansen. Schmidt's contract with Ireland expires next year although he has an offer on the table from the IRFU that would take him through to the World Cup 2019. After a three weeks summer tour in which Ireland twice let leads slip in South Africa, Schmidt was nearly overcome with emotion as he contemplated his future with a reference to his son who is ill.
“Yeah, for all sorts of reasons,” Schmidt said. “It’s not really my decision to be honest. I’ve got a young fella struggling at the moment. That’s just the way it is.”
