France 22-16 Scotland

Sunday 12th February 2017 at Stade de France, Paris

Match Report

France beat Scotland 22-16 in a bruising encounter at the Stade de France in Paris. Both teams scored a try and two penalties apiece in the first half, with Stuart Hogg going over for Scotland and Gael Fickou for France. Tim Swinson scored a second Scottish try shortly after the break, but Finn Russell missed an easy conversion after the ball fell off its tee. France were awarded a penalty a few minutes later, which Camille Lopez kicked to bring the teams level at 16-16. Camille Lopez kicked two further penalties inside the final 10 minutes to give France a six point victory. “We’ve had just lost three matches, so it was important that we won today,” the France head coach, Guy Novès, said. “Maybe what matters is getting the victory in the last 15 because we missed the last 15 against England. I don’t think we are backtracking. We won tonight, so that is not going backwards.”
