Ireland Six Nations 2017 results

RBS 6 Nations 2017 results for Ireland

Ireland played 2 home matches against France and England, and 3 away matches against Scotland, Italy and Wales in the 2017 Six Nations Tournament, known as the greatest rugby union championship in the world. With 3 wins and 2 defeats, Ireland ended the 2017 Six Nations as runners-up to champions England. England had won 11 straight batches in the RBS 6 Nations coming into this final match of the championship against Ireland, and were looking to become the first team in history to win back-to-back Grand Slams. However Ireland decided to make up for losing to Wales in Cardiff a week ago and go for a second place finish. Henderson’s try and Jonathan Sexton made the difference. Peter O'Mahony was magnificent in his first start of the campaign, winning the man-of-the-match award for his display. Ireland opened the scoring with a Sexton penalty after 11 minutes giving them the lead, but England’s Owen Farrell scored next. Ireland’s pressure was rewarded on 24 minutes when Henderson went over from a rolling maul. Ireland enjoyed a 10-3 lead at the break. Eddie Jones made a substitution at half-time bringing on Mako Vunipola for Joe Marler and England cut the deficit to four points when Ireland were penalised for coming in at the side, Farrell was on target from 45 metres.
